Quick Guide

-to ‘the most relaxed trading card game in the world’!

Your deck

Each player’s deck holds 25 unique monster and power cards. Monster cards form the main attack force of your deck. With power cards you’ll make your monster cards stronger and turn the game of Monster Club upside down.

How many lives?

At the start of a new game, the players determine the number of lives they play with. The number of lives not only indicates the time frame of the game, but it can also influence your strategy.

When your monsters get destroyed, so get your lives. So you better take good care of them.

The board

  • To your right resides your deck. Here you place your shuffled deck of 25 cards at the start of each game.

  • In the center of the board resides the playing board. It consists of three playing spaces. Players need to carefully select to which spaces they play their monster and power cards to create stacks.

    MOVE OR ATTACK

A stack always consist of one monster card and of none to multiple power cards. Once per turn a stack can move one space to its left or right if that space is not in use. When your stack faces one of your opponent’s stacks you can initiate an attack at the end of your turn. If a stack has been moved it cannot initiate an attack during the same turn.

    CARD EFFECTS

Some cards have a special effect to target a specific side of the board. If this is the case it is always specifically mentioned which board is targeted.

'Your board' is always the side of the board of the card owner.

'Your opponent's board' is always the side of the board of the card owner's opponent.

'The board' or ‘any board’ targets both sides and therefore the full board.

  • To your left resides your grave. Here all cards from the original owner’s deck end up when destroyed. Cards from an opponent can never end up in your grave and vice versa.

    CARD EFFECTS

Some cards have a special effect to target a specific grave. If this is the case it is always specifically mentioned which grave is targeted.

'Your grave' is always the grave of the card owner.

'Your opponent's grave' is always the grave of the card owner's opponent.

'Any grave' or ‘the grave’ targets both graves.

It’s your turn!

Draw, play & attack!

Draw…

At the start of each turn you draw until you hold 5 cards.

From hand you play monster cards to free positions on your board. Whether you do so face up or face down is up to you!

When your board is empty you need to play at least one monster card to your board. If that's not possible with your current hand you have to show your hand to your opponent, return it to your deck, shuffle and draw again.

Play

It’s always a great idea to stack power cards to your monster cards to make them stronger. Power cards can be stacked face up or face down. However, a face down monster cannot hold face up power cards. And power cards cannot be played on their own.

Always take note of the power card indicator in the monster card's bottom left. It’s the maximum amount of power cards that may be stacked to this monster.

Attack!

At the end of your turn you can initiate attacks on facing stacks. When you attack all your cards turn face up to activate. Then your opponent’s cards turn face up to activate.

The stack with the lowest score is destroyed and sent to the grave. When scores are equal, players turn to their monster’s type, which is either ‘rock✊’, ‘paper✋’ or ‘scissors✌️’ displayed in each monster’s lower right. The dominant type remains while the inferior type is destroyed. When both types are equal both monsters are destroyed.

Game over?

When you lose a monster you lose one of your lives too. When any player runs out of lives the game of Monster Club is over! Easy!

That’s all!

Well, almost…
